Toughened Glass is float glass which has been further processed to its final size and detail then treated via computer controlled heating followed by rapid cooling. This results in a change to the molecular structure of the glass increasing the strength by up to 4/5 times that of the original glass and far more tolerance to flex or deflection than normal glazing.
Should the glass fail, it collapses into a pile of small uniform particles; no sharp shards and virtually harmless to people and pets. The breakage can be simply swept up and removed. Our process has no effect on the original characteristics of the glass and ensures minimal change to the critical optics and flatness. In fact, other than our certified quality stamp it will take an expert eye to tell the glass has been toughened.
We toughen 4 through to 15mm glass at our ultra high tech factory right here in Cairns. Splashbacks, pool fences, frameless showerscreens and balustrading are all products typically produced as toughened from clear, tinted, low iron, acid etch or even pattern glass. There are stringent technical limitations to the process which are detailed separately, and your specific requirements will be carefully considered at the point of order.
